The 4-Cylinder Sprinter Diesel is Back!

Freightliner Sprinter Van
After a two-year absence, Freightliner Sprinter announced that a new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine Sprinter Cargo Van is joining the fleet and will arrive at dealerships late 2020.

The new diesel model joins the robust Sprinter lineup that includes the 3.0-liter, six-cylinder turbo diesel Cargo, Crew, Passenger, and Cab Chassis; and the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder gasoline Cargo, Crew, and Passenger models.

The new and improved four-cylinder diesel model comes with an advanced powertrain, producing 161 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The new model will be offered with a seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive configuration. Available wheelbase options include the 144-inch wheelbase with a standard roof, 170-inch wheelbase, and 170-inch extended wheelbase with a high roof offering - perfect for hauling all the equipment and parts you need to complete the job.

In addition to power, Sprinter quality retains its value over the haul, making it a smart investment for your business’ bottom line. The four-cylinder Sprinter diesel is no different. The new fleet member offers additional benefits such as low fuel consumption, low emissions, and high elasticity at low speeds. These benefits save your business time and money, helping to stay productive for longer periods. When it’s time to upgrade, Sprinters retain their value over time so you’ll get the most for your investment.

To make the four-cylinder more appealing, it comes standard with innovative and integrated connectivity solutions, allowing for intelligent digital communication between drivers, vehicles, and managers to improve productivity, efficiency, and safety while helping to move your business forward. Other extensively tested and advanced, new features include Keyless Start, brake hold functionality, charging capabilities with two USB-C sockets in the dashboard, a trailer hitch prep package, load- adaptive electronic stability program, all-season tires, an adjustable steering wheel with standard shift paddles, and a metal load compartment floor.

Class-leading safety features have always been the cornerstone of Sprinter, and the new four-cylinder diesel model surpasses that of previous generations, making it the safest Sprinter yet. In order to continue to ensure the safety of your vehicle and crew, a range of optional safety features are available on the new Sprinter Diesel. These traffic boosting awareness features include the radar-based systems Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and Active Lane Keep Assist. For even more added safety, there are optional enhanced features including Parking Package with a 360-degree camera and Emergency Call (ECall).

“The Sprinter Van offers the most efficiency, quality, and retained value in its class,” said Phil Landsman, Sprinter Brand Manager. “The new Sprinter diesel provides our customers with another option to save more over time, making it the best choice for their bottom line.”
