History of the Sprinter Cargo Van

Freightliner Sprinter Van
While Freightliner has been “hard at work” for the past ninety years, the Freightliner Sprinter Cargo Van didn’t make its US debut until 2001. Sprinter is built in a new state-of-the-art facility in North Charleston, SC, with the capacity and technology to meet the needs of Sprinter now and into the future. Since then, the  Freightliner Sprinter has evolved into a leading commercial van manufacturer - helping you and your business keep one step ahead of the competition.

However, that pioneering spirit is as strong as ever when it comes to the new Sprinter Vans. Here’s a timeline of the Sprinter Cargo Van’s brief yet influential history in the USA:
2001 - The first generation Freightliner Sprinter Van is introduced.
2004 - Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) is standard on all Sprinter Vans. ESP® is upgraded two years later.
2007 - The second generation Sprinter Van hits the market.
2010 - The Freightliner Sprinter comes equipped with one of the cleanest diesel engines available in its class, helping to increase fuel efficiency.
2014 - Safety has always been the cornerstone of Sprinter. The Sprinter Van gets an innovative redesign with an upgraded drive train and first-in-class safety systems.
2015 - Freightliner introduces the 4 x 4 Freightliner Sprinter, the first (and only) four-wheel-drive commercial van available.
2020 - A turbocharged gasoline engine with a best-in-class 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission comes standard on the new Sprinter.

Today, the Freightliner Sprinter continues to push the envelope for technology and innovation while delivering vans with an extraordinary level of safety, performance, and cost-efficiency.  The Sprinter Van itself offers superior capabilities to fit your individual commercial needs.
