How COVID-19 Has Transformed Businesses That Use Sprinter Vans

During 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the ways companies across Florida and the nation do business. As owners and employees navigate to the “new normal” many have adapted or changed the way they do business to remain operating (and in some cases, thriving) during the pandemic.

How can transforming your Freightliner Sprinter van bring new life to your business? Some businesses are converting their delivery van to mobile showrooms. This allows them to bring the product to the customer for an on-site demonstration, as some customers are hesitant to visit the brick-and-mortar stores. A microbrewery renovated its van into a traveling tasting room.

And perhaps the most dramatic of transformations: a southeast Pennsylvania-based industrial bolting and calibration company transformed its Sprinter van into a mobile workshop on wheels.

The company sells, rents, repairs, and calibrates specialty tools for power plants and refineries. These tools, which are not available at retail stores, cost a minimum of $4,500. Typically, customers need to send their tools into a shop for repair, with a turnaround time of a few business days. By taking the company mobile, it could provide faster service at a premium price. However, customers would be able to have tools repaired or calibrated on-site in less than an hour.

While the company’s current Sprinter was great for an occasional on-site work van, it lacked the shelving and storage to be a fully-remote operation. The company also wanted to upgrade the van’s exterior to boost its professional image. By upfitting the interior, the business would be able to be operated from the van, on-site and on-call. The van was upfitted with a workbench, shelving, and drawers for equipment and supplies. Additional upgrades included insulated walls, a diesel-fired heater, LED lighting, 110v outlets, and solar panels for a battery boost. Since the Sprinter is equipped with self-sufficient power, the company doesn’t need to tap into the customer’s power when on-site.

Spending time and money on the upfitting and other conversions was a no-brainer. It made sound business sense as it gave the company the ability to seek out new business and charge more its services., and the full-size Sprinter van was given new life as a full-service tool workshop on wheels. Combined with a fresh decal and company logo, the company is now projecting a positive image for its business and its services. Since the industrial bolting company requires a two-tool minimum for on-site repair and calibration, they are able to charge more for their services. And the customers are willing to pay more for these value-added services due to the quality workmanship and convenience. Additionally, the company travels with an inventory of tools available to rent or buy, which has resulted in extra business.
