The Next Generation eSprinter

While the eSprinter and electric vehicles (EVs) are popular in Europe, these products are not widely available in the United States. However, this is about to change.

The US will be one of the first countries outside Europe to receive the new electric Sprinter cargo van. The eSprinter 2.0 is built on the Mercedes-Benz Electric Versatility Platform and features a variety of upgrades that are more tailored to American needs.

Electric Versatility Platform

The eSprinter 2.0's Electric Versatility Platform is Mercedes-Benz's EV (electric vehicles) foundation. Designed exclusively for large vans, this innovative e-drive platform forms the technical basis for the next-generation eSprinter. This upgrade is quite significant since the original eSprinter had limited variations. The core elements include three modules that enable the greatest possible flexibility in developing and designing different body types. This allows the new eSprinter to offer body configurations, previously only available with combustion engines.

Features of the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter 2.0

Multiple Configurations

Besides being the electric version of the current Sprinter, this versatile vehicle has various possible configurations, including a family van, an ambulance, cargo transportation, and even a flatbed truck! So whether you're interested in a vehicle for your small business, or something different to drive around with your family, there's plenty to enjoy in these exciting upcoming EV models.

Battery Options

The eSprinter 2.0 will come with three battery capacities, allowing customers to get the vehicle and the battery to best suit their needs. For example, a last-mile urban delivery vehicle will not have to carry the extra weight of a battery that it won't use to its full potential, and longer-range solutions will not require excessive charging. According to Mercedes-Benz, the eSprinter 2.0 would have a range increase of between 85 and 100 miles.

Fleet Management

While the eSprinter 2.0 is designed for fleets and single users, there's a dedicated section of the van's backend for fleet management. Mercedes-Benz has its own management system, but many businesses rely on third-party suppliers. The application programming interface (API) allows the eSprinter 2.0 access to all information a company requires about the van's performance.

UX Technology

The updates aren't limited to the vehicle body; they're also located on the dashboard. The eSprinter2.0 does have the most recent version of Mercedes-Benz's MBUX technology and infotainment software, which includes all EV-specific bits, such as a navigation system that maintains range and charges.

eSprinter US Debut

While Mercedes-Benz hasn't yet set a release date for the eSprinter, it has revealed that production will begin in the second half of 2023. The vehicle will be manufactured at three plants: North Charleston, South Carolina, in the US, and Dusseldorf and Ludwigsfelde in Germany. Hopefully, the model will be available soon after that.
